Overview of Course
The TC2 & TMI2 Combined Skill Set provides the knowledge and practical skills required to control
traffic and implement Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) plans on high-volume roads. Designed for experienced traffic management workers, this course develops the competencies required to control traffic, implement traffic management plans and manage on-site operations in
Category 2 environments.
Training is delivered by an Austroads Approved Training Provider in accordance with the Austroads TTM National Training Framework. Category 2 roads are high-volume roads, generally with speed limits of 60 km/h or more and traffic volumes of 3,000 vehicles per day or more. They also include work within 100 metres of a signalised intersection and roads with multiple lanes in a single direction (excluding overtaking and turning lanes). Motorways and freeways are Category 3 and are not covered by this course.
Course Duration
- 2 Days face-to-face theory training
- Minimum of 20 hours supervised practical experience on Category 2 roads and a final practical assessment

Upon successful completion of the applicable training, workplace experience and assessments, participants may receive nationally recognised Statements of Attainment for:

- RIIWHS207 – Control traffic on high volume roads
- RIISS00061 – Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for High Volume Roads (TMI2)

- RIIWHS304 – Implement traffic management plans on high volume roads

Assessment & Workplace Experience Requirements
Participants must complete the required assessments, practical activities and workplace evidence.
TC2 – Traffic Controller
- Hold TC1 (RIISS00058).
- Complete 40 hours of relevant Category 1 workplace experience before enrolment.
- Complete at least 20 hours of supervised practical experience on declared Category 2 roads
within six months of completing the theory component. - Submit required evidence and complete the practical assessment.
TMI2 – Traffic Management Implementer
- Hold TMI1 (RIISS00060).
- Have one month of relevant TMI1 workplace experience.
- Provide evidence of setting up at least 12 temporary traffic management types, including high-speed or high-volume roads, and at least two of the following: pedestrian and cyclist controls, construction sites, lane closures, shoulder closures, night works or use of portable traffic control devices.
- Complete three different setup types on Category 2 roads.
- Submit the required workplace logbook and evidence.

What are the Entry Requirements?
For TC2:
- Successful completion of TC1 (RIISS00058).
- At least 40 hours of relevant Category 1 traffic controller workplace experience.
- Valid photo identification and any additional applicable state or territory requirements.
- Successful completion of TMI1 (RIISS00060).
- At least one month of relevant TMI1 workplace experience.
- Evidence of the required traffic management setups and workplace experience.
- Valid photo identification and any additional applicable state or territory requirements
How Much Does It Cost?
Total course fee: $1,050
Your course fee includes the 2-day theory training, learner resources and workplace logbook, the
final practical assessment, and re-assessment if required. There are no hidden assessment fees after your placement.
Austroads Information
This course is delivered by an Austroads Approved Training Provider in accordance with the Austroads Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) National Training Framework. Austroads registration fees of $175 (TC2 $75 + TMI2 $100) apply separately to the AVT course fee.
Successful participants will receive nationally recognised Statements of Attainment for the applicable Category 2 skill set(s), subject to completion of all required training, workplace experience and assessment requirements.
